Take your time with each step. Your device keeps private keys offline, while you stay in control of the recovery information that protects access.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO KNOW

Your recovery phrase
is yours alone.

Your 24 words are the master backup to your crypto wallet. Keep them secret, offline, and in your control. Anyone who sees them may be able to take your assets.

Write it down offline

Use the supplied recovery sheet or another durable offline backup. Check every word and its order against the device screen.

Keep it private and safe

Choose a secure place only you can access. Don't photograph it, store it in cloud notes, or share it with anyone.

Trust your device, not a message

Confirm addresses and sensitive actions on the hardware wallet display. Be wary of urgent DMs, ads, and support impersonators.

Never type your 24 words into a website. Not even a site that looks official. Not even someone claiming to be support.

What is Ledger Live, and where should I get it?

Ledger Live is Ledger’s companion app for viewing accounts and managing supported crypto assets. Download it only from ledger.com/ledger-live or the official Ledger mobile app listing. Avoid sponsored search results, unsolicited links, and third-party download sites.

What is my 24-word recovery phrase for?

It is the offline backup that can restore access to your wallet if your device is lost or damaged. Anyone who gets the phrase can control the assets associated with it. Write it down privately, keep it offline, and never share it—not with support staff, a website, or an app.

Can Ledger Support ask me for my recovery phrase?

No. Never disclose your recovery phrase or enter it into a website, app, chat, or computer. Ledger Support will not need it. Anyone asking for it is attempting to steal your assets.

Do I need to send crypto to activate my device?

No. A genuine setup should not require sending funds to a person, address, or “activation” service. Complete initialization in the official Ledger app and check the device’s authenticity using its on-device prompts.

What if my recovery sheet already has words written on it?

Stop. A new device should generate a new recovery phrase during its own initialization. Do not use a phrase supplied in the box, by a seller, or by anyone online. Reset the device if necessary and contact Ledger through support.ledger.com.
